29 May 2005 – Race Day
Special thanks to Mark McQueen (my Deaf volunteer mechanic who travelled all the way from Glasgow on his motorcycle to help me) as he sorted out the water pump early this morning. I left Plymouth on time followed by a press boat (with one of my interpreters Helen Dunipace from BSLISScotland. A viewing boat also followed, carrying my wife Kay, my children Nicola and Ashley, and my small team of volunteers.
I got off to a good start but soon after the wind reduced, which slowed me down due to the extra weight of supplies (food and fuel mostly) I have onboard.
